Honourable Professor Umar Adam Katsayal, mni; a shining beacon of knowledge and intellectual prowess, was born on 14 September 1970, in Katsayal village, present-day Sandamu Local Government Area, Katsina State, Nigeria. Throughout his academic and political trajectory, Prof. Umar Katsayal has demonstrated an unwavering dedication and commitment to education and serving mankind as a transformative force in Daura Emirate, Katsina State and Nigeria at large. His resolute commitment to knowledge and relentless pursuit of excellence have been the driving force behind his remarkable successes.

Professor Katsayal's academic pursuits culminated in the attainment of numerous qualifications, including a B.Sc. in Botany from the prestigious Bayero University Kano before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy. With each degree of progress, Professor Katsayal fortified his intellectual arsenal, becoming a formidable force in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

After his mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corp in 1997, he started an academic sojourn with the Department of Pharmacognosy and Drug Development, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria, in 1998. From 1998 to date, Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal has held many academic and administrative positions within and outside Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

His dedication, commitment, and perseverance have guided him to rise from one rank to another and finally become a Professor of Pharmacognosy at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He has to his credit supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students and mentored many younger colleagues, some of whom have risen to the rank of Professors at the moment.

Throughout his career, Professor Katsayal has left an indelible mark on the academic landscape at the departmental, faculty, and university levels from 1998 to 2023, before his appointment as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Transportation, Daura.

In recognition of his exceptional aptitude and contributions, Professor Katsayal has been bestowed with numerous honours and affiliations in the fields of Plant Science, Pharmacognosy, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Biotechnology, and Neuroscience, among others. Furthermore, Professor Katsayal is a Member of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru (mni), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration of Nigeria (CILGPAN), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CioTA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy (FNSP).

In addition to his academic pursuits, Professor Katsayal is actively engaged in politics, where he is also a professional to the core. He is a Member of the Seventh National Assembly, House of Representatives, where he represented Daura/Mai’adua/Sandamu Federal Constituency under the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC). During his stay at the House of Representatives he sponsored six Bills and participated in sponsoring four other ones, bringing the total to ten Bills; nine of which are now Acts of the National Assembly.

Professor Umar Adam Katsayal’s journey is one of extraordinary achievements, intellectual fortitude, and unwavering dedication. His contributions to the fields of Politics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Law-making, Policies, Logistics, Transportation and Supply Chain, his commitment to academic excellence, and his exemplary academic and political leadership have left many indelible marks on the institutions he has served and is currently serving and the countless lives he has touched in Daura Emirate, Katsina State and throughout Nigeria and indeed beyond Nigeria.
