Mal. Umar Faruk Bayu is a distinguished university administrator with over twenty-five years of professional experience spanning telecommunications, public service, university governance, personnel administration, institutional management and service delivery. His appointment as the Pioneer Substantive Registrar reflects national recognition of his competence, integrity, leadership qualities and extensive experience within the Nigerian university system.
Born on 19th September, 1969, in Dukku, Gombe State, he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1981 and graduated from Government Secondary School, Dukku in 1986. He holds a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Business Education (Accounting), a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri (1998), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi (2013).
Commencing his career in 1999 at NITEL Plc, he transitioned to the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2010. By 2011, he moved to the newly established Federal University Kashere (FUK), where he rose to the pinnacle rank of Senior Deputy Registrar. During his tenure at FUK, he served effectively as Acting Registrar for two years and enacted pioneering reforms including establishing the Student Affairs Division, setting up Pension and Mortgage Desk Offices, and digitizing the Annual Performance Evaluation System.
Beyond his administrative excellence, Mal. Bayu is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and a member of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA). He is happily married with seven children and remains deeply committed to advancing higher education in Nigeria through continuous improvement, teamwork, and institutional excellence.
