Welcome to the Department of Transport and Ports Management, a dynamic academic department dedicated to developing highly skilled professionals for the transportation, logistics, maritime, and port management sectors. We are committed to providing quality education, innovative research, and practical training that address contemporary challenges across national and international’s road, rail, air, maritime, and inland port systems. We combine academic rigor with industry practice to produce graduates who are “job-ready” from day one.
The Department offers two specialized degree programmes: Transport Management and Seaport and Dryport Management. These programmes are designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge, technical competencies, and managerial skills required to excel in the rapidly evolving transport and maritime industries.
1. BSc Transport Management
This programme trains managers and planners for road, rail, air and urban transport systems. Students gain expertise in transport economics, traffic and fleet management, road safety, logistics and transport policy. Graduates pursue careers as transport planners, logistics managers, fleet/operations managers and traffic safety officers with government agencies and private firms.
2. BSc Seaport and Dryport Management
This specialized programme focuses on port operations, shipping business, cargo handling, maritime law, customs procedures and inland dryport logistics. Graduates are equipped to work as port operations managers, shipping agents, cargo superintendents, freight forwarders and dryport managers within shipping lines and clearing companies.
Located within the Faculty of Transport Management, our department aligns with the industry needs. We work closely with relevant transport stakeholders to ensure our curriculum stays current with sector trends, technology and policy. We achieve this by delivering teaching that integrates classroom theory, simulation, field trips to seaports, airports, rail terminals and dryports, plus a mandatory 6-month SIWES industrial attachment.
Our department, have a team of professionals dedicated academics, technical and non-teaching staff actively engaging with students, coordinating and driving students’ learnings towards achieving quality degrees to solve future transport and port management challenges.

ADMISSION/ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate (UTME)
The prospective candidate for a 4-year degree programme is expected to have obtained credit passes in five Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) subjects or its equivalent including English Language and Mathematics, Economics, Geography and either Biology or Agricultural Science, Financial Accounting, Commerce at not more than two sittings. The UTME subjects shall comprise English Language, Mathematics, Economics and Geography or any one of these Science subjects, namely Biology or Agricultural Science.
Direct Entry into 200 Level
A ‘Level passes in English, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Studies, Geography and or Government (Graded A–E) … or
ND holders with preferably Upper Credit in relevant areas are eligible for admission into year two (2) in addition to fulfilling the O/L requirements as stated above. HND holders with preferably Upper Credit in relevant area are eligible for admission into year three (2) in addition to fulfilling the O/L requirements as stated at the discretion of the Department, join at 300 Level. A transfer student with advanced standing shall be required to spend not less than three academic sessions (6 semesters) in the University to be eligible for a degree. The courses required for the graduation of such a transfer student shall be duly approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the appropriate School Board of Studies. (See the table below).

STUDENTS FIELD EXPERIENCE
SIWES (Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme)
Duration: 8 weeks (end of 300 level).
Activities: The students are exposed to hands-on activities on for instance:
Ports Operations
Observe vessel berthing/unberthing, cargo loading/offloading, use of cranes/RTGs. Learn terminal operating system TOS.
Cargo Handling & Documentation
Process shipping documents - Bill of Lading, Delivery Order, CUSSON 1000. Work with clearing/forwarding agents.
Customs & Freight
Assist in customs examination, duty calculation, manifest processing with Nigeria Customs Service NCS.
Warehouse/Dryport Management
Stock control in warehouses, container yard management, stuffing/stripping of containers.
Maritime Safety & Security
Learn ISPS Code, port security checks, safety drills with NIMASA/NPA security unit.
Shipping Business
Work with shipping lines/agents on vessel scheduling, freight rate quotations, demurrage/detention calculation.
Fleet Management
Log vehicle movement, fuel consumption, maintenance schedules. Learn GPS tracking software.
Traffic & Route Planning
Assist with route optimization, passenger load surveys, bus scheduling using software like PTV Visum or manual methods.
Road Safety Operations
Work with FRSC/state traffic agencies on accident data collection, safety campaigns, speed limit enforcement.
Terminal Operations
Manage bus parks/motor parks - ticketing, loading control, passenger welfare, security checks at various transport mode stations/terminals.
